Survey to check traffic jams starts today

Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) and Dhaka Metropolitan Police (traffic) will jointly conduct a survey to find out the causes of traffic congestion regularly occurring on the road connecting the Dhaka Airport and Shahbagh area in the capital.

The decision came at a meeting held at DSCC Nagar Bhaban yesterday in presence of Mayor Sayeed Khokon.

The mayor told the Dhaka Tribune: “We have formed a nine member committee headed by Moslehuddin Ahmed, joint commissioner of DMP traffic. The committee will start the survey tomorrow [today] and will submit its report within 15 working days.”

Director of Clean Air and Sustainable Environment project, Deputy Commissioners of DMP, Dhaka South and North City Corporation’s traffic engineering officials and urban planners are members of the committee.

Moslehuddin Ahmed told the Dhaka Tribune: “We will essentially find the causes of traffic jam, the problems on the roads which result in traffic jams. However, this survey is not for bringing forth long-term solutions.”

DSCC CEO Anser Ali Khan and Additional Commissioner of DMP (traffic) Maruf Hasan were present at the meeting.
