The government has approved lifetime special security for the family members of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman under the Father of the Nation’s Family Members Security Act 2009.
As per a circular signed by Dr Md Mozammel Haque Khan, senior secretary of the Home Ministry, and issued yesterday, Bangabandhu’s family will get appropriate security fence facilities for their residences.
Besides securing entrances and exits, security officials will provide perimeter security around the residences and keep watch from nearby buildings. Any establishment posing a threat may be removed to ensure security.
Fully-equipped fire service units will always be present at residences. Ambulances will also always be present. Treatment abroad for family members will be arranged at government expense.
Security will be ensured beforehand for areas to be visited by Bangabandhu’s family.
Security forces will be deployed, the whole area will be brought under closed circuit television camera surveillance and objects and persons will be scanned before entering the residences. Emergency escape passages will be built at the residences.
The Public Works Department will take steps to renovate, expand and maintain family members’ residences, no matter whether they were provided by the government or are owned by the family members themselves.
Vehicles, sufficient fuel and a chauffeur will be provided. Family members’ telephone connections, supply of pure drinking water and gas, and high-speed internet connections will also be provided by the government, according to the circular. Family members will be entitled to the services of a personal secretary, two ayas, a cook, a gardener and a cleaner – all paid for by the government.
The circular says other ministries, including Home, Public Works and Finance and the secretariat, will be immediately effected if the family members of Bangabandhu need their support.
