Bangabandhu’s family to get lifetime special security

The government has approved lifetime special security for the family members of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman under the Father of the Nation’s Family Members Security Act 2009.

As per a circular signed by Dr Md Mozammel Haque Khan, senior secretary of Home Ministry, and issued on Monday, the family members will get appropriate security fence facilities for their residences to resist threats of any kind.

Besides securing the entrance and exit routes, security officials will take a strategic position around the residence and keep watch on the high-rise buildings around to ensure foolproof security. If any establishment or high-rise seems threatening, necessary steps will be taken to remove those establishments to ensure security.

A fire service unit will always be present at the residence with all kinds of equipment.

An ambulance will also be always present at the house to ensure the family members’ treatment; if needed, their treatment abroad will be arranged at government expense.

Security will be ensured beforehand for areas to be visited by the family members.

The circular states that a necessary security force will be deployed, the whole area will be brought under closed circuit television camera (CCTV) surveillance, and all objects and persons will be scanned before entering the house.

There will be a number of passage networks for emergency exits from the residence.

The government will also provide some additional facilities to the family members of Bangabandhu: the Public Works Department will take steps for renovation, expansion and maintenance of the residence, no matter if it is provided by the government or owned by the family members themselves.

Vehicle facilities with sufficient fuel and a driver will be provided while telephone connections, supply of pure water and gas, and high-speed internet connection will be provided under government arrangement.

The family members will also get a personal secretary, two ayas, a cook, a gardener and a cleaner – all paid by the government.

The circular says other ministries, including the Home, Public Works and Finance, and the secretariat, will be immediately effected if the family members of Bangabandhu need support from them.
