11 killed in road accidents in 4 districts

At least 11 people were killed in road accidents in Sirajganj, Satkhira, Natore and Rangpur districts yesterday.

Our Sirajganj correspondent reports: Three people were killed and four others injured as a truck hit a mini truck on the Bangabandhu Bridge West Link road in Konabari area of Kamarkhanda upazila in the morning.

The deceased were identified as mini truck driver Shofi, 52, son of late Meher Kha, a resident of Ramchandrapur of Pabna district, his helper Dudu, 48 and his son Hridoy, 9, a resident at Madhabpur

village in Dhunat upazila of Bogra district

Police said the accident took place when the truck hit the gas cylinder-laden mini truck in the area around 5:30am, leaving three people dead on the spot and four others injured.

The injured were admitted to Sadar Hospital.

Helal Uddin, officer-in-charge of Banghabandhu Bridge West Police Station, confirmed the incident.

Police sources said as many as fifteen people had got killed in road accidents on the western side of Bangabandhu Bridge link road in Kamarkhanda upazila just in a span of three days.

On May 23, at least 10 people were killed and over 50 others injured in a triangular collusion between a truck and two buses at Shimantabazar on the road.

On May 22, two people were killed when a truck fell into a ditch at Mofij Mor on the link road.

In Satkhira, three people were killed and 20 others injured when a bus plunged into road side ditch in Tala upazila, reports our correspondent.

The identities of the deceased could not be known immediately.

The injured were admitted to Tala Hospital.

Witnesses said, the driver of a Satkhira-bound bus from Khulna lost control over the steering at Subhashini area around 11:30am and plunged into road side ditch, leaving three dead on the spot and 20 injured.

Tala police station Officer-in-Charge Rezaul Karim conformed the incident.

Rangpur correspondent said two people were killed when a microbus hit a truck standing on the road in Pirganj upazila.

 The identities of the deceased could not be known immediately.

In Natore, two men including a BRTC bus helper were killed in an accident in Sadar upazila in the evening, said our correspondent.

Mizanur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Sadar police station said a Dinajpur bound BRTC bus lost its control over the steering in Nawpara area and hit a tree leaving its helper dead on the spot and 20 injured.

Of the injured, one died while he was being rushed to Natore Sadar hospital.
