Two buses-truck collision kills nine

At least nine people were killed and several others injured in a triangular collision among two buses and a truck on the west side of Bangabandhu Bridge in Sirajganj yesterday.

But identity of the deceased could not be ascertained immediately.

Police Super Sirajganj SM Emran Hossain and Physian of emergency department of Sirajganj Sadar Hospital told the Dhaka Tribune yesterday evening that number of deceased would be increased.

Officer-in-Charge of Bangabandhu bridge west police station Helal Uddin said a North Bengal-bound truck had skidded off the road after an explosion of its one  tyres. Then, a Rangpur-bound bus of Antar Paribahan collided head-on with it. After the collision, a Dhaka-bound bus of Nabil Paribahan hit both the truck and bus from behind in which the truck and Antar Paribahan bus wrecked immensely, killing driver of the truck and a passenger of Antar Paribahan bus on the spot.  Over 50 people were also injured in the accident.

Being informed, law enforcers from Bangabandhu bridge west police station and Kadda police out post rushed to the spot and rescued the injured.  Of the injured, four people died on the way to hospital while three others died while they were undergoing treatment at Sirajganj Sadar Hospital. 

Vehicular movement on the highway remained halted for one hour after the accident.
