Hosts Bangladesh were off to a brilliant start in the Asian Men’s Central Zone Volleyball Championship after they came from behind to earn a 3-1 set victory over Maldives at the Shaheed Suhrawardi Indoor Stadium yesterday.
The home side began the game with a negative approach and lost the first set 20-25 before they staged a marvelous comeback by winning the second set by 25-20 points.
Bangladesh, clad in red jersey, toiled hard to win the next two sets (25-21, 25-20) but revenge from five years back was complete within the fourth set of the game. Bangladesh were on the losing side when the two teams last met in the South Asian Games in Dhaka in 2010.
Bangladesh will take on Kyrgyzstan on Monday in their second Pool B game before facing Nepal a day later. One win from the two encounters will guarantee a semifinal spot for the hosts.
