School peon plays obscene video for girls, beats two boys up

Two fifth graders have been beaten up severely by a staff member of their school, following an argument over playing obscene videos on mobile phone in Panchagarh Sadar upazila.

The injured students – Imran Hossain, 11, and Zahid Hasan, 11 – have been admitted to Panchagarh Sadar Hospital.

Injured Imran and Zahid

The incident took place on Tuesday afternoon, four days after the vice-principal of a Dhaka school was discharged from her position, and two staff members were dismissed over the sexual assault of two young schoolgirls.

Quoting the victims, family members said staff member of Pukuridanga Government Primary School Zakir Hossain was showing an obscene video to some schoolgirls at the office room while the teachers were not there.

Noticing this, Imran and Zahid entered the office room and wanted to watch the mobile phone video footage.

But, Zakir refused to show them the video, triggering an altercation. At one stage of the argument, Zakir beat the students up, leaving them injured.

Hearing the news, guardians and villagers rushed in and locked the school immediately.

Guardians – Asraf Ali, Hossain Ali and Moslem Uddin – told the Dhaka Tribune that Zakir is drug addicted and he often shows obscene videos to female students of the school.

Faruk Hossain, headmaster of the school, told the Dhaka Tribune over cell phone that the teachers were outside conducting a survey when the incident occurred.

“We will take action against Zakir Hossain by holding meeting of the School Management Committee.”

When contacted, OC of Panchagarh police station Mominul Islam said: “We are yet to receive any complaints in this regard. We will take steps once someone files a complaint.”
