Illegal gas connections delinked in Narayanganj

Titas Gas Transmission and Distribution Company Limited cut off illegal gas connections to 11 commercial establishments in Araihajar and Rupganj upazilas of Narayanganj on May 13 and 14.

In a press release yesterday, Titas said it also fined the illegal users Tk3.93 lakh for stealing gas from the national grid.

A mobile court in presence of local police, an executive magistrate and assistant commissioner (land) of Narayanganj conducted the drives. Gas connections of a cast iron factory in Shibpur, Bhuiyan Textiles and Ratan Dyeing of Kalibari, Khadija Textiles of Banti and one other factory were disconnected at the time.

Bhuiyan Textiles and Khadija Textiles were fined Tk1 lakh each. During the drive at the cast iron factory, police arrested two people and rescued one in chained condition. A case was filed in this regard.

Meanwhile, gas connections were also snapped at six restaurants at Rupganj’s Boropa and Rupsha bus stand areas. A total of Tk1.93 lakh was collected from them in fines.
