7 die in diarrhoea outbreak

At least seven people died in an outbreak of diarrhoea at remote Sajek area under Bhagaichari upazila of Rangamati district yesterday.

Bhagaichari upazila chairman Bororishi Chakma and headman Jipputong Tripura said 30 people of Shialdaha and Chaillatal villages became sick as the disease broke out in the area on Thursday.

Of the victims, Tarai Tripura,35, Bodratri Tripura,45, Teerbabu Tripura, 50, Lakshmi Tripura,30, Dirbora Tripura 30, Bidhamohon Tripura,85, Kushumoti Tripura,52, died.

Sources said army, BGB and police personnel visited the area.

A medical team also had been sent to the area, said Deputy  Commissioner Shamsul Arefin.

When contacted, Superintend of Police Sayed Tarikul confirmed the death of four persons.

The correct information could not be gathered instantly as the remote area was far away from the district town and the communication system was in vulnerable condition, said the deputy commissioner.
