Imran: Unpunished murders encouraging killers

Failure to ensure exemplary punishment, state patronization and inspiration from certain political leaders have encouraged the militants to kill one secular person after another, Gonojagoron Moncho spokesman Imran H Sarker has said.

He made the remark while addressing a gathering at Shahbagh – the home of the Moncho – protesting yesterday's killing of Mukto-Mona blogger Ananta Bijoy Das.

“When miscreants make abusive remarks about ruling party men on social media, they are traced immediately. But when they openly threaten free thinkers, they remain untraceable.”

Imran said that every time a blogger had been murdered, the government try to divert people's attention by creating new issues.

“None of the accused have been punished until now; rather they have been freed on bail so that they can commit such crimes again,” Imran said.

At the gathering, human rights activist Kushi Kabir said: “The government's silence proves that the government wants to protect the perpetrators.”

After the gathering, the Gonojagoron Moncho brought out a procession and marched towards the TSC roundabout on the DU campus.

They have announced rallies and sit-in programmes for Wednesday evening demanding immediate arrest and punishment for Ananta's killers.
