Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina yesterday directed the authorities concerned to undertake steps in order to resolve the existing problems of two private export processing zones (EPZs) to make them functional.
The prime minister gave the directives at the 18th meeting of the board of governors of Bangladesh Private Export Processing Zone (BPEPZ) held at the Prime Minister’s Office yesterday, which she chaired herself.
The private EPZs in question are the Korean EPZ and the Rangunia EPZ.
PM’s Press Secretary AKM Shameem Chowdhury said the meeting discussed in details the overall progress and existing problems of the EPZs.
Finance Minister Abul Maal Abdul Muhith, Industry Minister Amir Hossain Amu, Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed, Shipping Minister Shajahan Khan, Land Minister Shamsur Rahman Sharif, Environment and Forests Minister Anwar Hossain Monju, Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Anisul Haque, PM’s Economic Affairs Adviser Dr Moshiur Rahman, Executive Chairman of the Board of Investment SA Samad, State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid, Bangladesh Bank Governor Dr Atiur Rahman, Attorney General Mahbube Alam and concerned secretaries were present at the meeting as well.
