Three alleged human traffickers have been killed in a gunfight with police in Teknaf upazila of Cox's Bazar district.
The deceased are Dholu Hossain, 45, of Shahporirdwip Bazarpara area, Jahangir Alam, 40, son of Abdul Mazed of Katabunia and Jafar Alam, 35, son of Kobir Ahmed of the Hariarkhal area.
Teknaf OC Khandakar Ataur Rahman said: “Acting on a tip-off, we raided the Shoikot Hatchery Zone area around 4:30am Friday. “Sensing our presence, the human traffickers opened fire at the police."
In retaliation, police fired back, leaving the three bullet wounded.
Later, they were taken to the hospital where the on-duty doctor declared them dead.
Meanwhile, three police officials were also injured in the gunfight.
The OC said: “They were included in the lists of human traffickers at the Home Ministry and were also accused in various trafficking cases in Teknaf.”
