A Supreme Court lawyer has filed a writ petition with the High Court seeking its directives on the government to form a judicial commission to investigate media reports on irregularities that occurred during the three city corporation elections.
SC lawyer Yunus Ali Akond filed the petition on Thursday afternoon.
In his petition, Akond also sought the High Court rule on why the failure of the government and the Election Commission to conduct a free and fair election should not be declared illegal.
He urged the HC to make the Election Commission, chief election commissioner, secretaries to the LGRD and Home ministries, returning officers of Dhaka South, Dhaka North and Chitagong City Corporations respondents to the rule.
The SC lawyer attached the media reports on the irregularities during the city polls with his petition.
Elections to Dhaka South, Dhaka North and Chitagong City Corporations were held on April 28. Terming the city polls farcical, BNP rejected the three city corporation polls.
The United States and United Kingdom expressed their disappointment over the intimidation and violence during the city corporation elections.
