Trial bus service between Dhaka and Guwahati – the largest city in the Indian state of Assam - is yet to begin due to several limitations of Bangladesh government.
Earlier, the government planned to launch the passenger bus service on a trial basis on May 2.
The Tamabil port, which is to be used by the bus service, is not ready to provide immigration and customs facilities as the construction work has not been completed yet, said the Road Transport and Highways Division (RTHD) officials.
In an official notice signed by the Deputy Secretary Manindra Kishore Majumder of the RTHD on April 30, the government said it was not possible to start the trial run of the bus service.
He further said RTHD Secretary MAN Siddique was out of the country then and a new date would be fixed when he returned.
On May 3, MAN Siddique, upon returning to Dhaka, told the Dhaka Tribune: “The service will be launched shortly and we have already requested the related division to do their tasks within shortest time possible.”
Moreover, the government is yet to sign deal with any company to run the buses needed for this new route.
