A man was allegedly abducted in broad daylight by a group of plain-clothed men in a microbus on Friday morning.
The victim Abul Kalam Azad, 38, is an office assistant of Babuganj upazila Shishu Academy and son of Liakat Ali from Ghataker Char of the upazila.
He was abducted from Fire Service Station crossing on Babuganj-Mohanganj road, about one kilometre from his home.
Mojammel Hossain, one of the witnesses said some tall unidentified men in casual tee-shirt and trousers approached Abul Kalam Azad while he was walking to Khanpura at around 9:30am.
The men were waiting near a white microbus with tinted glass and asked him to ride with them.
When Azad denied, the miscreants dragged him inside the vehicle.
On hearing his hue and cry, local people rushed to rescue him but the plain-clothed men claimed themselves to be Rapid Action Battalion members and took off.
However, Lieutenant Colonel Farid Hossain, commanding officer of RAB-8, denied of any drive to arrest anyone in the area.
Abdul Matin Hawladar, chairman of Chandpasha union parishad, said Azad was a simple man and was never accused of any criminal activities as per his knowledge.
Faruk Hossain, younger brother of the victim, suspected that one of their cousins could be involved in the abduction over rivalry regarding properties.
Shah Alam, officer in-charge of Babuganj police station, said Alamgir Hossain Alo, elder brother of Azad, lodged a case about the alleged abduction on Friday night without mentioning anyone's name.
He further added that police had already visited the spot and launched an investigation to rescue Azad.
