Dhaka ranked fourth among 124 cities worldwide in air pollution on Tuesday morning.
According to IQAir, Dhaka recorded an average Air Quality Index (AQI) score of 217 around 9m. The level is classified as “very unhealthy.”
India’s capital Delhi topped the list of most polluted cities with a score of 250. Yangon in Myanmar ranked second with 227, while Lahore in Pakistan placed third with an AQI score of 223.
They were followed by Dubai in the United Arab Emirates, Kathmandu in Nepal, Karachi in Pakistan and Manama in Bahrain.
At the same time, Copenhagen in Denmark recorded the cleanest air, with a score of 11. It was followed by Portland in the United States, Toronto in Canada, Auckland in New Zealand and Oslo in Norway.
Under AQI guidelines, a score between 0 and 50 is considered good, 51 to 100 moderate, 101 to 150 cautionary, 151 to 200 unhealthy, 201 to 300 very unhealthy and above 301 severely unhealthy.
According to AQI data, around 7 million people die globally each year from air pollution-related causes.
