The Bangladesh Meteorological Department has forecast heavy rainfall in various regions of the country over the next three days due to active monsoon conditions over the Bay of Bengal.
In the next 24 hours, thunderstorms with gusty winds are expected in most places in the Chittagong and Sylhet divisions, with the possibility of very heavy rainfall in some areas.
The met office has also warned of landslides in the hilly areas of the Chittagong division due to the heavy rainfall.
It says that the axis of the monsoon trough extends from Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, West Bengal, and the central region of Bangladesh to Assam.
A portion of this axis extends to the northern Bay of Bengal. The monsoon is active over Bangladesh and is in a moderate to strong state over the northern Bay of Bengal.
The 24-hour forecast, starting from 9am on Friday, predicts light to moderate rain or thunderstorms with temporary gusty winds in most places across the Rangpur, Rajshahi, Dhaka, Mymensingh, Khulna, Barisal, Chittagong, and Sylhet divisions. Additionally, some areas may experience moderate to very heavy rainfall.
For Saturday's 24-hour forecast, similar weather conditions are expected in the Rangpur, Rajshahi, Dhaka, Mymensingh, Khulna, Barisal, Chittagong, and Sylhet divisions, with the possibility of moderate to very heavy rainfall in some places.
Sunday's forecast also predicts light to moderate rain or thunderstorms with temporary gusty winds in most places across these divisions, with some areas potentially experiencing moderate to very heavy rainfall.
In the last 24 hours, the highest rainfall in the country was recorded in Ishwardi at 164mm. Other notable rainfall measurements include 151mm in Cox's Bazar, 143 in Ambagan, 97 in Rangamati, 90 in Sitakunda and Ramgati, 87 in Chittagong, 84 in Sandwip, 81 in Khepupara, 73 in Maijdi Court, 70 in Hatiya, 66 in Satkhira, 65 in Barisal, 63 in Khulna, 62 in Gopalganj, 60 in Mongla, 59 in Tarash, 49 in Bhola and Comilla, 48 in Jessore, 45 in Teknaf, 37 in Bogra, 36 in Kumarakhal, Bandarban, and Badalgachhi, 33 in Mymensingh, 24 in Chandpur, 18 in Rajshahi, 15 in Faridpur, 14 in Patuakhali, 13 in Nikli, 11 in Chuadanga, 10 in Netrakona, 9 in Rangpur, 8 in Aricha and Dinajpur, 5 in Dhaka, 4 in Narayanganj and Tangail, 3 in Sylhet, and 2 in Koyra, Srimangal, and Madaripur, with 1mm recorded in Syedpur and Dimla.
For the period from 10am to 6pm on Friday, the weather forecast for the inland river ports indicates that areas including Rajshahi, Faridpur, Madaripur, Jessore, Kushtia, Khulna, Barisal, Patuakhali, Noakhali, Comilla, Chittagong and Cox's Bazar may experience temporary gusty or squally winds from the south or southeast at speeds of 45 to 60 kilometers per hour, accompanied by rain or thunderstorms.
River ports in these areas have been advised to hoist cautionary signal number 1.
