The Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) has forecast rain or thundershowers in Chittagong and Sylhet divisions in 24 hours from 9am on Friday, as severe heat hammers the country.
Rain or thundershowers accompanied by temporary gusty or squally wind are likely at one or two places over Chittagong and Sylhet divisions with hail at isolated places, said a met office bulletin.
The weather may remain mainly dry with temporary partly cloudy skies elsewhere.
“Day and night temperatures may remain nearly unchanged over the country. Due to an increase in moisture incursion, discomfort may persist,” it said.
Meanwhile, a very severe heatwave is sweeping over the districts of Chuadanga and Jessore and a severe heatwave is affecting the rest of Khulna division and the districts of Tangail, Faridpur, Gopalganj, Manikganj, Rajshahi, Pabna, Dinajpur and Nilphamari.
A mild to moderate heatwave is sweeping over Barisal division and the districts of Dhaka, Madaripur, Kishoregonj, Narsingdi, Bogra, Naogaon, Sirajganj, Rangpur, Kurigram, Panchagarh, Mymensingh, Moulvibazar, Rangamati, Chandpur, Feni and Bandarban, which may continue, reads the bulletin.
The country’s highest temperature during the 24 hours till 6am on Friday was in Jessore at 42.4 degrees Celsius.
On the other hand, the lowest temperature was in Panchagarh’s Tetulia at 20.6 degrees.
