The bustling capital city of Dhaka on Sunday morning observed a one-minute silence program as part of the government's campaign to increase public awareness about noise pollution.

At the invitation of the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, more than 60 banks, educational institutions, and other organizations participated in this program.

The capital was kept noise-free for one minute from 10am to 10:01am.

Besides, special programs were held at 11 important points in Dhaka city from 9:30am to 10am.

The programs were held in front of Osmani Auditorium next to the Secretariat, Shahbagh intersection, Uttara, Bijoy Sarani, Mirpur-10, Gabtoli, Moghbazar, Mohakhali, Gulshan-1, Basabo, and Jatrabari intersection.

As per the prior announcement, the participants arrived at these places about an hour before the program.

Officials and employees of the Secretariat, public offices under the ministry, scout members of schools and colleges, public representatives, representatives of government offices, traffic police, and transport owners association members were present.

Jewel Mridha, assistant manager of Bangladesh Forest Industries and Climate Change, said: “We are observing a one-minute silence program to make the drivers aware and not to blow the horn unnecessarily. Various leaflets were also distributed.”

There is no alternative to raising awareness to reduce noise pollution, said the official.
