Aubergine cultivators of Lamonirhat are very happy due to bumper production and satisfactory prices at local markets.
Farmers said growers who cultivated aubergine this season could be able to double their money by selling the vegetable.
A farmer can earn as much as Tk1,300 to Tk2,500 by investing only Tk250-Tk1,200 to cultivate aubergine on one decimal of land.
Aubergine growers Matiar Rahman, 56, from Fulgachh village of Lalmonirhat sadar upazila, said he invested Tk7,000 to cultivate the vegetable on .161 hectare which is approximately 40 decimal land this year and started getting profit.
Matiar added, “At first I sold eight maunds of eggplants at a rate of Tk45 to 50 per kg. Immediately after selling my first lot I sold 18 maunds at a rate of Tk30 to 33 per kg and now I have been selling the vegetable at a rate of Tk18 to Tk20.”
From the same village, another cultivator Shamsul Alam, 50, said he has already earned Tk13,000 by selling aubergine this season.
Abdus Salam, 48, a farmer at Komlabari village at Aditmari upazila, said he in comparison to the last year had earned almost double this year.
Mohammad Nuruzzaman, agriculture officer of Lalmonirhat sadar upazila, said a farmer could grow 4 to 6 maunds of eggplant on each decimal of land.
