The Cabinet Committee on Government Purchase has approved four proposals to import 155,000 tons of fertilizer from Canada, Russia and Saudi Arabia under state-level and government-to-government (G2G) arrangements at a total cost of Tk982.61 crore.
The imports comprise 115,000 tons of Muriate of Potash (MOP) from Canada and Russia and 40,000 tons of diammonium phosphate (DAP) from Saudi Arabia.
Of the MOP, 80,000 tons will be imported from Canada in two lots at a cost of Tk379.35 crore, while 35,000 tons will be imported from Russia for Tk165.90 crore.
The 40,000 tons of DAP from Saudi Arabia will cost Tk437.37 crore.
The proposals from the Ministry of Agriculture were approved at a committee meeting at the Secretariat on Wednesday, chaired by Finance Minister Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury.
The Bangladesh Agricultural Development Corporation (BADC) will implement the imports, with the costs covered by the agricultural subsidy budget.
