The government will procure some 1.15 million tons of rice (boiled and non-boiled) and 800,000 tons of paddy during the current Boro season.
An additional 75,000 tons of wheat will be procured from local markets in the season, said a handout of the Food Ministry on Thursday, reports UNB.
The government has set the target at a meeting of Food Planning and Monitoring Committee (FPMC) at the conference room of the ministry.
Some 1 million tons of boiled rice will be procured at Tk36 per kg, 150,000 tons of non-boiled (atap) rice at Tk35 per kg and 600,000 tons of paddy at Tk26 per kg.
Besides, wheat will be collected at Tk28 per kg.
Agriculture Minister Dr Md Abdur Razzaque, Fisheries and Livestock Minister SM Rezaul Karim, Health Minister Zahid Maleque, LGRD Minister Md Tajul Islam, among others, attended the meeting through a videoconference.
Food Minister Sadhan Chandra Mazumder presided over the meeting.
