A woman and her 12-year-old daughter were killed after a truck hit their motorcycle and ran over them in Ghoraghat, Dinajpur on Friday.
The accident occurred around 12:00pm in Jamilapur area of Ward No 1 under Ghoraghat Municipality.
The deceased were Sampa Begum, 35, wife of Selim Hossain of Nasirabad in Gobindaganj upazila and her daughter Nusaifa Akter, 12.
According to police and locals, Sampa, her daughter and her husband were riding a motorcycle to visit their son-in-law’s house in Baganbari area.
When they reached Jamilapur, a truck coming from behind rammed their motorcycle, throwing all three onto the road. The truck then ran over Sampa and Nusaifa, killing them on the spot.
The girl’s father was seriously injured and was taken to a hospital by locals.
Ghoraghat Police Station Officer-in-Charge Shahidul Islam said police visited the scene after receiving the news.
Legal proceedings are underway, he added.
