At least three people were killed and three others injured when a passenger pickup lost control and overturned in Rangamati’s Manikchhari early Sunday.
The accident occurred in front of the Sapchhari Army Camp on the Chittagong-Rangamati road in the early hours of August 16.
The deceased were identified as Meghrani Chakma, Shantana Chakma and Shanti Ranjan Chakma.
According to locals, the pickup was heading from Rangamati town towards Kutukchhari Bazar when it lost control and overturned in the Manikchhari area.
Locals rescued the victims and took them to Rangamati General Hospital, where doctors declared three dead on arrival, said Dr Shawkat Akbar, the hospital’s resident medical officer.
One of the injured, Shobha Chakma, was in critical condition and was referred to Chittagong Medical College Hospital.
Md Tofazzal Hossain, a sub-inspector at Rangamati Kotwali Police Station, said police were preparing the inquest reports and investigating the cause of the accident. The bodies will be handed over to the families after completion of legal procedures.
