Four people, including a pickup van driver, were killed in a head-on collision between a pickup van and a goods-laden truck in Bogra's Kahaloo upazila on Saturday morning.
The accident occurred in the Kazipara Boubazar area of Birkedar union along the Bogra–Naogaon highway.
The deceased were identified as Toriqul Islam Riyad, 23, son of Ferdous Islam of Pachashi village in Gouripur upazila; pickup driver Nasir Uddin, 24, son of the late Amin Khan of the same village; Lutfor Rahman, 50, son of Toyeb Ali of Raghabpur in Mymensingh Sadar; and Shubha Debnath, 23, son of Chittaranjan Debnath of the same area.
According to family members, the three fish traders had travelled from Mymensingh to Adamdighi in Bogra with a consignment of fish fry for sale. After selling the fish, they were returning home when the accident occurred.
Police said the crash occurred around 10:00 am when the pickup van attempted to overtake a bus and collided head-on with a Naogaon-bound truck coming from the opposite direction, killing the driver and three fish traders on the spot.
The accident briefly disrupted traffic on the Bogra–Naogaon highway. Fire Service and Civil Defence personnel, assisted by police, recovered the bodies and removed the wrecked vehicles, allowing traffic to resume.
Sub-Inspector Brojer Mahato of Kahaloo Police Station said the victims included three fish traders and the pickup driver. The pickup van and the truck have been seized, while the truck driver and his assistant fled the scene.
"The victims' families in Mymensingh have been informed. The bodies will be handed over to their relatives upon arrival," he said.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) Shafiqul Islam said a case has been filed under the Road Transport Act, and efforts are underway to arrest the absconding truck driver.
