3 killed, 2 injured as truck crushes auto-rickshaw in Mymensingh

Three people were killed and two others injured after a truck crushed a battery-powered auto-rickshaw in Mymensingh on Tuesday afternoon.

The accident occurred at the Shambhuganj Rail Crossing on the Mymensingh–Kishoreganj highway.

The deceased were identified as Shila Akter, 25, daughter of Abdul Motaleb of Tarakanda, and Abeda Akter, 35, wife of Abdul Hamid of Raghurampur in Mymensingh Sadar Upazila. The identity of the third victim could not be known immediately immediately.

Confirming the incident, Officer-in-Charge (OC) Muhammad Shibirul Islam of Mymensingh Kotwali Model Police Station said one person died on the spot when the auto-rickshaw was run over by the truck.

He said local residents rescued four injured people and rushed them to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared two women dead on arrival.

Nazrul Islam, in-charge of the police camp at Mymensingh Medical College Hospital, said three women and the auto-rickshaw driver were brought to the hospital with injuries.

"Two of the women were declared dead by the on-duty doctors. The auto-rickshaw driver received primary treatment and later left the hospital, while another woman remains admitted in critical condition," he said.

The accident claimed a total of three lives, while one woman continues to receive treatment and another person was also injured.
