Five people, including four members of the same family, were killed in a head-on collision between a passenger bus and an ambulance in Faridpur on Sunday.
The deceased were identified as ambulance driver Kawshar Matubbar, 26; and its passengers Mohammad Jahangir Molla, 62; his wife, Majeda Akter, 48; his brother, Alamgir Hossain Molla, 58; and his sister, Khurshida Begum, 45.
The accident occurred around 10:45am in the Shankarpasha area on the Faridpur-Barisal highway under Nagarkanda upazila.
Confirming the incident, Helal Uddin, officer-in-charge of Bhanga Highway Police Station, said when a Dhaka-bound BRTC bus coming from Rajbari collided head-on with a Faridpur-bound ambulance. “Five people died on the spot,” he said.
The bodies were recovered and kept at Bhanga Highway Police Station before being handed over to their family members.
Following the accident, personnel from Nagarkanda Police Station, members of Bhanga Highway Police, and a team from Nagarkanda Fire Service rushed to the scene and restored traffic movement on the highway, the OC added.
The damaged bus and ambulance have been taken into police custody.
