'Kishor-Kishori Club' to initiate eliminating child marriage

Women and Children Affairs Ministry will submit a proposal to the Planning Commission very soon proposing establishment of thousands of Kishor-Kishori Club in every union and municipality eyeing elimination of child marriage throughout the country. Secretary of the ministry, Nasima Begum disclosed the matter while addressing a child budget based programme as special guest at CIRDAP auditorium in the capital on Wednesday. Finance Minister Abul Maal Abdul Muhith, who was present as chief guest, launched the programme titled “Shishuder Budget Path Shohayika (Child Friendly Version of the National Budget of Bangladesh)”, a joint publication prepared by the Finance Division and UNICEF Bangladesh. The secretary said they had already run a pilot project named Kishor-Kishori Club and had received unbelievable success from the project and so they had made the outline of the project and prepared the proposal to send it to Planning Commission. He said: “The ministry will submit a proposal to the Planning Commission to establish some 4,780 Kishor-Kishori Clubs. And every club would have 30 female members and 10 male members. They would work together so that none of them or their friends, neighbours of the locality would be victims of the crimes. He said the club would also contribute to be a centre of studying, reading and exploring IT world.
