PM to take care of poet Helal Hafiz's treatment

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has taken all responsibilities for the treatment of the ailing poet when he called on the premier at Ganabhaban on Sunday evening, her Press Secretary Ihsanul Karim told reporters. Sheikh Hasina inquired about the health condition of Helal Hafiz, who has been suffering from Glaucoma disease. Helal Hafiz presented two poetry books -- Je Jole Agun Jole and Kobita '71 -- to the prime minister. During his 45-minute meeting, the poet also recited his own poems before the prime minister. Ophthalmologist of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University Dr Nuzhat Chowdhury and Prime Minister’s Special Assistant Mahbubul Hoque Shakil were present during the meeting. One eye of the 68-year-old poet has fully been damaged and the condition of another eye is critical due to glaucoma problem, doctors said.
