Hasina: One medical university in each division

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has said one medical university will be built in every division of Bangladesh with the aim of providing modern medical services to people at their doorsteps. The prime minister made the statement while addressing the 13th Convocation of Bangladesh College of Physicians and Surgeons held at Krishibid Institution auditorium on Wednesday afternoon. “People are enjoying the fruits of various measures taken by our government in the medical sector. We have provided the public with free treatment and medicine and ensured medical service especially in the village, union and upazila levels.” Talking about the Digital Bangladesh agenda, Hasina said: “We taken measures to built a digital Bangladesh. Web cameras have been installed in every hospital and we are also providing medical service through mobile phones. “We made mobile phones available after coming to power. The foreign minister of previous BNP-led government was using it for personal business.” The premier said: “We have appointed 12,728 surgeons and 108 dental surgeons and the process of appointing more people is under way.” She said nurses were also sent to Singapore for training so that they can provide better treatment to people. “Various initiatives have been taken to improve the treatment facilities at Dhaka Medical College Hospital and Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University and we have built specialised hospitals like National Institute of Eye Science and Hospital, Cancer Institute and National Institute of Neurosciences Hospital as a part of the initiative,” she said, adding that separate hospitals were also built for public servants and police officials.
