A man injured in Saturday's fire at a Tongi packaging factory has succumbed to his injuries, taking the death count in the tragedy to 25.
Ripon Das, 30, who hailed from Bagerhat's Morolganj, died around 3am on Sunday at the Dhaka Medical College Hospital, said residential surgeon Parthi Sonkor Pal.
He was suffering 90% burns.
Ripon worked as an operator at Tampaco Foils Ltd and live din Tongi.
A fire engulfed the Tampaco factory in Gazipur on Saturday morning after
a huge explosion. It was initially believed that a boiler explosion had triggered the blaze but government officials said they suspected a
gas leak may be the cause.
The explosion occurred when about 100 workers were believed to be inside the factory, which was initially identified as a garment packaging plant. Fire service officials later clarified that it packs food and cigarettes.
More than 50 others are believed to have been injured in Bangladesh's worst industrial accident since the 2013 Rana Plaza collapse.
A series of industrial disasters in recent years have put the focus back on safety issues at Bangladesh's factories.
