Minister: Sheikh Hasina will never return to Bangladesh

Liberation War Affairs Minister Ahmed Azam Khan on Sunday said Sheikh Hasina will never return to Bangladesh, warning that attempts to destabilise the country through sabotage will not be tolerated.

“We want Hasina to return to face trial and go to prison over the numerous allegations of genocide against her. But she will never return. Instead, she will spread rumours, destabilise the country and incite Awami League leaders and activists to engage in sabotage,” he said.

He made the remarks while speaking at a discussion meeting, organized by the Sakhipur upazila BNP on Sunday afternoon, marking the National Revolution and Solidarity Day.

The minister said Bangladesh had no room for sabotage and would move forward towards democracy and development.

He also criticised opposition parties for staging frequent demonstrations and issuing threats and ultimatums. While the prime minister was making efforts at home and abroad to tackle the fuel crisis, thousands of vehicles were being brought out in processions, wasting fuel, he said, calling the practice condemnable.

Ahmed Azam Khan urged the government to be given five years to govern, saying the next election would be held after that period under a system ensuring people's voting rights.

“There will be no election under a partisan government. Voting will take place during the day, not at night, and no one will be allowed to cast another person's vote,” he said. Urging opposition parties to exercise restraint, he warned that people would reject those whose actions disrupted development and created instability.
