Crude bomb explosions were reported at four locations on the Dhaka University (DU) campus on Sunday evening, while students detained two people allegedly attempting to set off another bomb near the Teacher-Student Centre (TSC).
The incidents took place around 6:30pm. Students later handed the two detainees over to the university’s proctorial team.
According to preliminary information, explosions occurred beside the university’s administrative building, at VC Chattar, in front of the Mukti O Gonotontro Toron near Nilkhet, and in the TSC area.
At the TSC, students detained two people while they were allegedly attempting to set off a cocktail. The device may have been thrown towards the area from the direction of Suhrawardy Udyan, according to initial reports.
DU Proctor Professor Mohammad Israfil Prang said students detained the two individuals following the incident near the TSC and handed them over to the proctorial team.
“They are being taken to the proctor’s office. We have already informed Shahbagh police. We are reviewing CCTV footage to understand what happened,” he said.
