Seven Bangladeshis killed in Saudi road crash

At least seven Bangladeshis, including women and children, were killed in a road accident in Saudi Arabia on Saturday.

The accident occurred on a highway while they were travelling from Medina to Jeddah, according to officials at the Bangladesh Consulate General in Jeddah.

Consulate officials said the victims were travelling in a vehicle from Medina when the driver lost control, causing the crash. All seven died at the scene.

The deceased were associated with Al Abeir Cold Store Trading Company and hailed from Chakaria Upazila of Cox’s Bazar.

Nuruzzaman, the company’s marketing manager, said the victims included the company’s storekeeper Ziaur Rahman, his two sons and daughter, the wife of company forklift driver Ilias, and Alamshah, a storekeeper working in Mecca, along with his one-month-old daughter.

After receiving news of the accident, local police and rescue teams rushed to the scene, recovered the bodies and sent them to a local hospital morgue.

The consulate said it would provide all necessary assistance to complete the legal formalities and bring the bodies back to Bangladesh as soon as possible for handover to their families.
