Photo exhibition in Sadarghat highlights child safety and rights

A photo exhibition highlighting violence against children, neglect and the vulnerable living conditions of street children was held at Sadarghat in Dhaka on Tuesday to raise public awareness about child rights and protection.

Titled “Every Child Deserves Safety,” the exhibition was organised at the LEEDO School Under the Sky (SUS) premises from 10am to 2pm.

The exhibition featured 20 photographs taken by members of the LEEDO Young Journalist Changemaker Group. The photographs portrayed different forms of child abuse and neglect, LEEDO's activities and the challenges faced by children living in vulnerable conditions.

Prof Matiur Rahman, coordinator of the Bangladesh Legal Aid and Services Trust (BLAST), and Prof Maksudur Rahman Bhuiyan, senior legal officer at the organisation, attended the event as special guests.

Praising the initiative, the guests said such efforts could play an important role in protecting the rights and safety of vulnerable and disadvantaged children. They also expressed interest in working for the welfare of these children in the future.

According to the organisers, around 200 people, including journalists, students, local residents and representatives of government and non-government organisations, visited the exhibition.

The organisers said the initiative aimed not only to present the realities of violence and neglect against children but also to increase public awareness of child rights and encourage collective efforts from people across different professions to ensure children's safety.

They also stressed that every child has the right to grow up in a safe environment and live with dignity. Ensuring these rights requires coordinated efforts from families, communities, the media, government agencies and non-government organisations.
