Biman forms probe body over technical glitch on PM's flight

Biman Bangladesh Airlines has formed an investigation committee to determine the cause of a technical malfunction that delayed a flight carrying Prime Minister Tarique Rahman and his entourage in Japan.

Shahnur Ahmed, general manager of Biman's public relations department, confirmed the development to Dhaka Tribune on Friday.

He said the airline had formed an internal committee under its standard procedure for investigating such incidents and instructed it to submit its findings promptly.

The committee will be headed by Biman's Chief of Planning and Scheduling. Its members include the chief engineer (Engineering Production), deputy chief (Flight Safety) and manager (Legal Affairs), who will serve as member secretary.

The committee has been tasked with identifying the cause and nature of the malfunction, reviewing the measures taken to ensure the aircraft's airworthiness, and assessing the impact on flight schedules, passengers and the airline's reputation.

It will submit its report to Biman's managing director and chief executive officer.

Flight BG377, carrying the prime minister and his entourage, departed Narita International Airport in Japan five and a half hours behind schedule due to the technical glitch.

Biman's engineering team and Japanese technicians completed the repairs. The aircraft was pushed back at 7:43pm Bangladesh time and departed for Dhaka at 7:55pm.
