The Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) has taken Ahmed Shahriar Reza Deep into custody for questioning in connection with the disappearance of former air force official Tahsif Souri, who had left home after receiving a call from Deep, a friend from his area.
Abu Yusuf, a superintendent of police at the PBI headquarters, confirmed that Deep had been taken into custody by PBI Dhaka Metro North Office.
Speaking to reporters on Friday morning, the PBI media official said: “He was taken there last night. We are verifying some information provided by him about the places they visited, as the two were together.”
Abu Yusuf said Deep was taken to PBI Dhaka Metro North as part of the process of gathering and verifying information.
Meanwhile, Tahsif Souri's motorcycle has been found near the spot where his floating body was recovered from the Turag River.
PBI chief Mostafa Kamal told bdnews24.com on Friday.
Tahsif, who came into the spotlight as the alleged person who recorded a video of deposed prime minister Sheikh Hasina leaving the country, was found dead in the Turag River on Wednesday afternoon.
Tahsif's father, Enayetul Karim, said his son had left home on Tuesday evening after receiving a phone call from Deep. At around 1:35am, Tahsif sent a message to his mother's mobile phone saying he was on his way home.
Speaking on Thursday afternoon, his father said the message made Tahsif appear to be in a hurry. No further information about his whereabouts had been available since then.
However, a close relative of Tahsif said the last voice message sent to his mother's phone did not sound like him.
