A 16-year-old girl died from burn injuries on Friday, two days after her parents succumbed to injuries sustained in a gas cylinder explosion at their rented home in Tongi, Gazipur.
Tanisha died while undergoing treatment at the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery in Dhaka around 9:30am on Friday. Officer-in-Charge of Tongi West Police Station Arifur Rahman confirmed the matter.
She had been in critical condition and receiving treatment in the intensive care unit of the same hospital since Wednesday, October 21.
Her father, Lal Chan Mia, 60, and mother, Nasima, 50, died at the hospital around 8:00pm on Wednesday.
Tanisha's maternal uncle, Jihad Ali, said his brother-in-law and sister died on Wednesday night, while his niece died on Friday morning. He added that preparations were under way to take Tanisha's body to their village home after completing the necessary legal formalities.
The family lived in a rented house owned by Fakhrul Hasan near Master Bari in the Mudafa area under Tongi West Police Station.
The explosion occurred around 7:00am on Wednesday when gas leaked from the pipe of a cooking cylinder and accumulated inside the house, triggering a blast. The ensuing fire left Lal Chan Mia, Nasima and Tanisha severely burned.
Neighbours rescued the three and rushed them to the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery in Dhaka in critical condition. All three later died while undergoing treatment.
Arifur Rahman said the process of handing over the bodies to the family was under way following the completion of the necessary legal formalities.
