Road minister launches free eye tests, spectacles for drivers

Road Transport and Bridges, Railways and Shipping Minister Shaikh Rabiul Alam on Sunday inaugurated a program to provide eye tests and free spectacles to drivers of government offices on the occasion of National Road Safety Day 2026.

The five-day program will run on Sunday and Monday and October 25-27, with drivers from the concerned ministries, divisions and offices receiving eye examinations during the scheduled period.

The program was jointly organised by the Road Transport and Highways Division and VisionSpring Bangladesh at the Bangladesh Secretariat.

Under the initiative, around 300 drivers from 39 ministries and government offices, including the President's Office, Prime Minister's Office and Cabinet Division, will undergo eye tests.

Free spectacles will be provided to those who need them based on the test results.

State Minister for Road Transport and Highways Division and Railways Ministry Habib Ur Rashid and Secretary of the Road Transport and Highways Division Dr Mohammad Ziaul Haque attended the event as special guests.

VisionSpring Bangladesh Managing Director Misha Mahjabin was also present.

The initiative aims to highlight the importance of clear vision for road safety and help ensure safer journeys for drivers and passengers.

Identifying vision problems and providing necessary spectacles are expected to help reduce potential road risks and raise health awareness among drivers.
