Preparations near completion at Lalon shrine ahead of 136th death anniversary

Preparations are nearing completion at Lalon Shrine in Cheuriya of Kumarkhali upazila in Kushtia ahead of the 136th death anniversary (Tirodhan Dibash) of Baul emperor Fakir Lalon Shah.

A three-day memorial festival will begin at Lalon Akhrabari on October 17.

Painting, decoration, stage construction and cleaning activities are progressing at the shrine, while traders have started arriving to set up stalls for the occasion.

Abdur Razzaq Bachchu, a member of the Lalon Academy's death anniversary organizing committee, told BSS that all preparations would be completed on time.

Lalon devotee Sabur said the occasion was more than a festival, describing it as an opportunity for spiritual purification and a celebration of humanity.

Devotees and spiritual practitioners from different parts of the country have already begun arriving at the shrine, creating a festive atmosphere.

Kushtia Deputy Commissioner Touhid Bin Hasan said Lalon's death anniversary reflects the country's folk culture, humanism and secular spirit.

He said devotees, spiritual practitioners and visitors from home and abroad gather at the shrine every year to observe the occasion.

The district administration has taken necessary measures to ensure security and facilitate the peaceful and smooth celebration of the festival, he added.
