Police have recovered a laptop and a bag containing valuables stolen from German national Kirill Lander Weber at Natore Railway Station.
Superintendent of Police Mohammad Shariful Haque confirmed the matter on Sunday.
The items were recovered from Noor Garments, a shop in the Nicha Bazar area of Natore town, around 8pm on Sunday, reports Bangla Tribune.
On Wednesday, Kirill travelled by train to Natore via Santahar after visiting several heritage sites in Bogura. At Natore Railway Station, a young man wearing a yellow vest approached him, claiming to be a railway employee, and gained his trust through conversation.
Kirill left his bag with the man in the station’s waiting room before going to an ATM booth to withdraw money and buy a ticket for a train to Darshana. When he returned, both the man and his bag were missing.
The bag contained a laptop, a DSLR camera and other valuables. Kirill had planned to enter India through the Gede border crossing after reaching Darshana.
Following the incident, police collected CCTV footage from the station and identified the suspect. Teams from Natore district police, railway police, Special Response Battalion (SRB-5) and Rajshahi Metropolitan Police subsequently launched efforts to arrest him and recover the belongings.
Earlier, officials said the investigation was complicated by the absence of a trackable mobile phone in the stolen bag, making it difficult to locate the suspect.
SRB-5 had also announced a reward for information leading to the suspect’s identification and arrest. On Saturday night, the unit put up posters featuring the suspect’s image at key locations around Natore Railway Station after analysing CCTV footage.
Hafiz Al Asad, commander of SRB-5’s Natore camp, confirmed the reward announcement and said efforts to arrest the suspect were continuing.
