120 tonnes of wheat seized in Chittagong, mill fined Tk3 lakh

A mobile court has fined United Flowers Mill Tk3 lakh for allegedly storing government-owned wheat illegally and operating without a licence in the Nasirabad area of Chittagong city.

The court also seized 120.05 tonnes (120,050kg) of red wheat during a joint drive led by an executive magistrate of Special Response Battalion (SRB)-7 and the Directorate General of Food on Saturday night.

Mosleh Uddin Ahmed, assistant director (media) of SRB-7, said authorities launched the drive after receiving a tip-off about illegal storage and unlicensed trading of government food grain in the area under Bayezid Bostami police station.

The drive ran from 7pm to 8pm, during which officials found the wheat at United Flowers Mill. The mobile court fined the establishment Tk3 lakh and seized the stock.
