President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Sunday called upon the affluent section of society to join hands in social service activities alongside the government's efforts for the welfare of distressed humanity.
"Underprivileged people will also be able to receive equal access to healthcare if the affluent section of society comes forward earnestly in social services," he said.
He made the urge as a delegation of Bangladesh Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons (BSCRS), led by its President Professor Dr Md Rashedul Islam, met him at Bangabhaban on Sunday, President's Press Secretary Md Sarwar Alam said.
During the meeting, Dr Md Rashedul Islam informed the President that world-class colon and rectal surgeries are now being performed in Bangladesh, eliminating the need for patients to go abroad for treatment.
He further added that the country's colon and rectal surgeons had established their positions internationally with a good reputation.
Dr Rashedul also formally invited the president to attend the international colorectal surgery conference, BSCRS Congress 2026, to be organized by the BSCRS on October 27.
The president accepted the invitation and assured the delegation that he would attend the event.
The president's military secretary and secretary, along with members of the Bangladesh Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons and specialist colon and rectal surgeons, were present at the meeting.
