A driver was killed in a head-on collision between a bus and a covered van on the Dhaka-Aricha Highway in Dhamrai, Dhaka, on Thursday morning.
The accident occurred around 7:15am in the Srirampur area of the highway.
The deceased was identified as 26-year-old Abu Bakar Siddique, a resident of Netrokona. A bus passenger was also injured in the accident.
According to Fire Service and highway police sources, a Dhaka-bound staff bus of AKH Eco Apparels collided head-on with an Aricha-bound covered van coming from the opposite direction.
The covered van was badly damaged in the collision, and its driver, Abu Bakar, died at the scene.
Personnel from Golra Highway Police Station and the Fire Service went to the scene after receiving the news and recovered the body.
Traffic on the highway was disrupted for some time following the accident but returned to normal after police removed the wrecked vehicles from the road.
Md Zainul, an assistant sub-inspector of Golra Highway Police Station, said the driver’s body had been recovered.
Police are conducting an operation to identify the bus and detain its driver, he said, adding that legal proceedings were underway.
