Mohammad Mostafa, a freedom fighter who fought on the frontline during Bangladesh’s Liberation War in 1971, and a teacher, writer and veteran journalist, died at a care home in the United Kingdom on Sunday while undergoing treatment. He was 75.
His cousin and veteran community leader KM Abu Taher Chowdhury confirmed the death, saying his namaz-e-janaza may be held in London on Tuesday.
Mostafa began his career as a teacher before joining journalism. An accomplished English-language journalist, he worked for years with The News Today. He was also a lifetime member of the Moulvibazar Press Club.
After moving to the UK, he remained active in journalism and served in several positions, including vice-president of the UK Bangla Press Club. His contributions to the 1971 Liberation War have been documented in several books.
His death has cast a pall of grief over the Bangladeshi community in the UK and the journalist community in Moulvibazar.
The UK Bangla Press Club, The Daily Dazzling Dawn and various other organisations expressed condolences to his family and prayed for the eternal peace of his departed soul.
