Toufique Imrose Khalidi, editor-in-chief and publisher of leading online news portal bdnews24.com, has died in London on Friday.
He breathed his last at around 7:00pm (Bangladesh time) on Friday while undergoing treatment at a London hospital, a senior bdnews24.com journalist confirmed to Dhaka Tribune.
According to his colleagues, Khalidi had travelled to London recently for medical treatment. He reportedly became dizzy and collapsed in his hotel room on Thursday night. He was subsequently taken to hospital by ambulance, where doctors declared him dead at around 7:00pm.
“Doctors said he had suffered a brain haemorrhage,” his colleagues said.
Khalidi had served as the publisher and editor-in-chief of bdnews24.com, the online news outlet and news agency he owned, since 2006.
He worked at the BBC in London as a presenter, producer and editor.
In December 2017, Khalidi received the National ICT Award in recognition of his contribution to the development of Digital Bangladesh.
