A settlement has been reached with the family of victim a case filed over the alleged abetment of suicide of Gazi Nazrul Islam’s second wife, Mariyam Akter.
The matter was disclosed during a bail hearing before Dhaka Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Md Sefatullah on Wednesday.
The complainant, Mariyam's father Masum Billah, said he had no objection if Gazi Nazrul and his first wife, Maksuda Islam, were granted bail.
Earlier, on September 20, police recovered the hanging body of Mariyam, 19, from Flat 203 of NAM Bhaban in Sher-e-Bangla Nagar. The door was locked from inside.
With assistance from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), police broke open the door and recovered her body hanging from a ceiling fan. Several notes were also found in the room.
The following day, Masum Billah filed a case against Nazrul Islam, his first wife Maksuda Islam and Mariam’s maternal uncle Obaidur Rahman, accusing them of abetting her suicide.
Police arrested Nazrul and Maksuda that night.
