President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has called for greater research and innovation in modern digital technology, artificial intelligence (AI), nanotechnology, biotechnology and semiconductors for public welfare.
He also stressed the need for responsible and measured use of AI.
The President made the remarks on Tuesday when a delegation from Khulna University of Engineering & Technology (KUET), led by Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Muhammad Masud, paid a courtesy call on him at Bangabhaban.
He cautioned against the uncontrolled and indiscriminate use of AI, saying excessive reliance on the technology could undermine people’s thinking abilities and creativity. He stressed ensuring its measured use for public welfare.
During the meeting, the KUET vice-chancellor briefed the President on the university’s overall academic activities.
The President stressed the need to decentralise quality education beyond the capital and increase universities’ involvement in national research and development activities.
The vice-chancellor also formally invited the President to attend KUET’s upcoming convocation as chancellor. The President accepted the invitation and assured the delegation of his attendance.
The President’s military secretary, secretary and press secretary, along with KUET professors, were present at the meeting.
