State Minister for Local Government, Rural Development, and Cooperatives Mir Shahe Alam, MP, on Sunday urged the relevant departments and agencies to work in a coordinated manner to ensure the use of solar power in government offices and institutions quickly.
“The relevant departments and agencies should advance their work according to their respective action plans and regularly review the progress of implementation,” he said, mentioning that the activities to use solar power must be implemented quickly.
He made the call at a meeting held in the conference room of the Rural Development and Cooperatives Division at the Secretariat, said a PID release.
He also said he would soon inspect the activities on the ground to install solar power at various institutions.
At the meeting, the ongoing activities and implementation progress of action plans of the concerned departments and agencies were reviewed to increase the use of solar power in government offices and institutions.
Various aspects of reducing electricity costs of government institutions and expanding the use of renewable energy through increased use of solar power were also discussed.
The meeting stressed taking necessary initiatives to implement action plans for using solar power at field-level offices of respective agencies as well as offices and institutions located in Dhaka.
Rural Development and Cooperatives Division Secretary Dr Rafiqul Mohamad chaired the meeting.
Managing Director of Small Farmers Development Foundation Mohammad Mahbubur Rahman, Director General of Bangladesh Academy for Rural Development; Comilla Saif Uddin Ahmed, Registrar and Director General of the Department of Cooperatives; Md Selim Fakir, Director General of Bangladesh Rural Development Board; AKM Tarek; and heads of various departments and agencies under the ministry were present at the meeting.
Heads of various departments and agencies located outside Dhaka also joined the meeting online and presented the activities and progress of their respective institutions.
