Fuel supply has returned to normal after shortages and accidents caused disruptions in Bangladesh, Power, Energy, and Mineral Resources Minister Iqbal Hassan Mahmood Tuku has said.
“Some time was needed to restore the situation due to fuel shortages and accidents. However, the fuel supply line is now normal,” he told reporters at the Secretariat on Sunday afternoon.
Tuku said fuel can now be brought into the country and supply schedules have been finalised.
“If there are no further accidents, electricity and fuel supplies can be maintained normally in the coming days,” he said.
The minister said the government did not deliberately create the situation and had sought alternative sources to minimise public suffering. He said gas was also imported at higher prices to address the shortage.
Explaining the disruptions, Tuku said the Iran-Israel war affected the Middle East, a major hub for oil and gas supplies, making it difficult to secure alternative sources.
“Even after purchasing fuel, it was not possible to bring it into the country,” he said.
